7 Golden rules for a successful and memorable first date

A first date can be a make or break moment. You are counting on the good first impression to enable subsequent dates. Therefore, you have to get it right. You have to ensure your date enjoys as much as you do. This is the time to stimulate desire and willingness to go for a second date. Most people are nervous on a first date. There are a lot of uncertainties on what to wear, how to behave and so on. These tips will hence help prep you and ensure your first date is successful and memorable.

1. Prepare thoroughly

Always make sure you have spoken prior on the phone and not just texts and emails. Wash your car and keep it tidy inside, if you have one. Remember to freshen up. It is okay to pop a breath mint before the date begins. Make sure you double check your date’s name to avoid addressing her by the wrong name. Plan your time well so that you arrive on time. It is bad gesture to keep someone waiting on a first date.

2. Dress comfortably

See to it that you wear something that makes you feel comfortable. An outfit that impresses you and can possibly impress your date too. Keep your outfit simple and streamlined. Avoid loud patterns that might distract attention away from what you are saying on your date. Don’t put on anything that is too tight, that constricts your breathing, or that your boobs will fall out of. Since you do not know his preference, it never hurts to be slightly more formal. Try out a dress and heels than torn jeans and flip flops.

3. Be yourself

Remember it is the first date so be natural. Do not pretend nor act to be someone you are not. Your voice is just fine, no need to fake an accent. Set your mind early and be at ease. It is a date and not a criminal proceeding or marriage interview so worry not. Keep in mind too that the date might or might not work out. If it works out, well and good, if it does not then it was not meant to be.

4. Keep off your phone

On a first date you need to learn as much as you can get. You also need to be attentive. Phones are the greatest distractors on dates. It is good you put it in your pocket or purse on silent mode or switch it off. Give your date the full attention it deserves and get to know each other well.

5. Keep the date short

Time is very important on a first date. This is by far the biggest mistake many make on a first date. They want to spend over 3 hours together on a first date. The first date is meant to find out if you have chemistry between you two. Leave it on a high note with both sides wanting to see each other again. A maximum of two hours is okay for a first date. Staying for too long will make you run out of steam and the date will turn out to be boring.

6. Do something that you enjoy

Stop trying so hard to please her. There is no specific formula to follow on a first date. You are out to have fun and get to know each other better. Just enjoy the moment and stop trying to impress her. If both of you can just be yourselves and concentrate on having fun together, your date will be great. Talk about what you think is right and if the other party seems not interested simply change the topic. Talk about what you are passionate about. This will automatically brighten you up, make you more interested, and more interesting.

7. Never take more than two drinks

Sobriety is key for a successful first date. When you overdrink you may lose your morals and misbehave. More so, much of your attention should be on talking not drinking. I already told you to keep your date short and with that two drinks fits in perfectly. Whether you are taking alcohol, wine, soda, energy drink or whatever, limit it to a maximum of two for a successful first date.
