President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake counterpart, ODM party leader Raila Odinga will be attending a similar function in the United States on February 5th.
Sunday Nation reports that the President and Opposition Leader, Mr. Odinga, will be attending the coming the International Lunch in Washington, DC, where they will be expected to give their “personal journey of faith and reconciliation”.
The US Congress’ National Prayer Breakfast co-chairs, John Moolenaar and Thomas R. Suozzi asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to consider addressing the audience at the event and share out their experiences in uniting the country through the famous handshake.
“As the keynote speakers for the lunch, we would like to ask you to share your personal journey of faith and reconciliation.” read the invitation as quoted by Nation.
The President and Mr. Odinga had also received another invitation to National Prayer Breakfast, which actually happens a day after the International Lunch.
Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will be the guests of honour at the National Prayer Breakfast.
Mr. Odinga had already talked about the invitation during his second Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally in Kakamega.
Odinga said it was because of the handshake that they had been invited.
“This time around, President Kenyatta and I have been invited to Washington, DC, in February to the National Prayer Breakfast so that we can tell them more about the handshake, because it is a unique thing,” Mr Odinga said.
The International Lunch honours members of the Diplomatic Corps based in the US.
