News reporter and anchor Jacque Maribe will be detained for 10 more days as the investigations into the murder business lady Monica Kimani continues. This ruling was delivered by Kiambu Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku on Monday morning.
In his ruling, principal magistrate Justus Kituku noted, “I am convinced that compelling reasons do exist to warrant retention in custody. So in the interest of justice I have granted prosecution 10 days to detain the suspect at Gigiri Police Station.”
Maribe’s lawyer Katwa Kigen made a submission pleading for the release of his client and should the judge decide to detain her further then he asked for a fair treatment while in police custody. “We have said please release her your honor. But if you choose to keep her for more days, we pray that the environment under which she is kept is not unfair to her.” Stated Lawyer Katwa Kigen.
Jacque Maribe was arrested on Saturday, taken to Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters to record her statement and later taken to Gigiri Police Station where she has been detained before being arraigned in court.
The prosecution had asked for 14 days to detain the journalist, arguing that the investigations required more time as DNA samples need to be collected as well as more statements from Maribe’s friends and colleagues.
Monica Kimani was found murdered in her house in Kilimani, Nairobi. Her body was in the bathtub and her throat slit. Jacque Maribe’s fiancée Joseph Irungu alias Jowie is the prime suspect in the murder case. He was arrested and is still in police custody as the investigations continue.
